Getting sick in a foreign country is upsetting. Especially, if you are somewhere unfamiliar dealing with doctors and nurses who may not speak your language.
In more serious cases, it can have also a significant effect on your finances.
Your Provider’s Obligations
Your all-inclusive holiday provider must follow package holiday regulations. Therefore, they have a responsibility for your health and safety while you are staying with them.
They also have a responsibility to make sure you are provided with a safe, clean and hygienic hotel. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for people to get ill while on holiday in Egypt.
This is usually due to food poisoning which is the most common form of illness claimed by UK holidaymakers.
Many hotels in Egypt leave food uncovered which leaves it open to insects or birds. Many resorts also serve food that is undercooked or even re-heat food which leads to food poisonings.
The most common culprit is the Salmonella virus which can leave you with diarrhoea, vomiting and fever, and which must be treated as soon as possible.
Poorly maintained swimming pools can also lead to serious stomach illness.
Example Egypt Holiday Compensation Claim
Mr H and Miss D came to us having been stricken with food poisoning on holiday in Egypt.
It appeared that poor cooking and very poor standards of hygiene at their hotel had combined to ruin their holiday causing stress and discomfort, to say nothing of a loss of quality holiday time.
We were very keen to help and were able to obtain a compensation settlement from the travel company who had provided the holiday in the sum of £5000.
The compensation money will allow Mr. H and Miss D to afford a replacement holiday in due course.
